Executive Abstract
When jumping backward and looking upward into the sky, the vestibular system is pushed to its limits. The Vestibular Otolith Organs (Utricle and Saccule) sense linear gravitational acceleration, feeding real-time balance signals to the cerebellum. Conditioning the Vestibulo-Ocular and Vestibulo-Spinal Reflexes allows elite athletes to calculate millimeter-precise 3D ball coordinates while airborne in mid-air.
