Executive Abstract
Lumbar spondylolysis (stress fracture of the Pars Interarticularis at L4-L5) is the most common cause of structural back pain in tennis. Executing the Kick Serve by hyperextending and laterally flexing the lumbar spine compresses the posterior facet columns under > 4,000 N of axial shear load. Remediation requires replacing spinal hyperextension with 115Β° Knee Flexion Spring and conditioning the McGill Big 3 Core Stability Engine.
