Stretch Shortening Cycle (Ssc)

The Stretch-Shortening Cycle (SSC) is the physiological foundation of plyometric power in modern tennis. By coupling an active eccentric pre-stretch with an explosive concentric contraction, the musculoskeletal system harvests stored elastic strain energy and spinal reflex recruitment to amplify stroke speed and court movement.

Compact SSC in Rapid Net Exchanges

At the net, the time window to execute an SSC is compressed to under 250 milliseconds. The volleyer utilizes micro-SSCs: a tiny split-hop loads the calves, and a short, compact unit turn loads the core obliques, providing instantaneous elastic punch to deflect incoming laser drives.
