Stretch Shortening Cycle (Ssc)

The Stretch-Shortening Cycle (SSC) is the physiological foundation of plyometric power in modern tennis. By coupling an active eccentric pre-stretch with an explosive concentric contraction, the musculoskeletal system harvests stored elastic strain energy and spinal reflex recruitment to amplify stroke speed and court movement.

Neuromuscular Principles of SSC Training

Developing high SSC capability requires plyometric conditioning that trains muscle spindle sensitivity while desensitizing Golgi Tendon Organs (GTOs). GTOs act as protective neural brakes that shut down muscle contraction if tension gets too high; structured SSC training elevates GTO inhibition thresholds, enabling athletes to handle immense eccentric loading safely.
