Tim Henman is a fantastic server. His serve and volley game took him to 6 grand slam semi-finals and ultimately to number 4 in the world. Take a look at his serve on the right and see if you can identify the key components of his awesome serve.

Here are the pieces to look for:

  • Do his tossing arm and hitting arm come up together at the same time or does he "stagger" them by lifting his tossing arm first and then lifting his hitting arm?
  • Does he lift his racket and arm up quickly or is it a slower, more delayed motion?
  • Can you pause the video and find a "trophy" position where the tossing arm is extended to the sky along with the racket and hitting arm extended to the sky?
  • Is he upright in his take back, or does his body sink down and fully coil?
  • Can you identify his "Big L" position?
